Royate Hill Community Orchard
The apple harvesting/pressing season is now over, so it’s back to the basics – groundwork on the allotment area & maintenance of the fruit trees & structures in the orchard.
With over 50 fruit trees there’s plenty to do in the orchard, from composting any ruined fruit on the ground to re-staking younger trees. On the allotment area we have growing beds to dig, land to clear, and seeds to sow. The compost loo, shed, and roundhouse also need attention!
Volunteer workdays at Royate happen on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month! As ever all are welcome, no experience/skills needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty. So wear old clothes & footwear, dress warmly in layers, and bring some gardening gloves if you have any (we have a limited supply).
The orchard & allotment tries hard to follow permaculture principles and is guided by Mike Feingold, giving an opportunity to learn both theory & practice!
We have a shared lunch around 1/1.30pm – please bring something vegan (or at least veggie), we can also cook on an open fire & make hot drinks, along with some mulled cider.
Please note we encourage people to come by bicycle/walk if possible, there is no on-site parking, only in nearby residential streets (5min walk away)
Any queries? Please call Mike on 07768 915423
